We recognise how difficult it can be for actors and stage mangers at the beginning of their careers to win jobs in competition with more established professionals.
For this reason for the past 15 years we have ring-fence a series of smaller roles and stage management opportunities to offer to recent graduates (2016 - 17) or exceptional mid, or pre-training performers of all ages on an unpaid voluntary basis in accordance with government guide lines on volunteering.
You will be an integral part of the company working alongside and learning from more experienced actors, crew members and our creative team, and developing new skills. The project provides a valuable showcase for actors or on-the-job experience for stage managers and a first professional credit with which to launch your career.
This August Gods and Monsters Theatre will be performing their 15th season of free outdoor theatre in the Scoop amphitheatre on the banks of the Thames. This year we will be bringing the Ancient Greek Adventure story THE ODYSSEY to vibrant life in an epic three part, three hour dramatisation that will employ storytelling, physical theatre, drama, comedy, combat, puppetry and music.
We are currently trying to raise money to pay at least travel expenses but for now please only apply if you could afford to take part on an entirely voluntary basis.
We can schedule rehearsals to allow you to get to evening work commitments during most of the rehearsals and any daytime commitments you may have during performance weeks. Our productions are free to watch, in the beautiful Scoop outdoor amphitheatre in zone 1, adjacent to City Hall on the Southbank of the Thames between London and Tower bridge; you can expect audiences of up to 800 people per night and this high profile project will be reviewed by influential critics and bloggers.
You'll need to be able to commit to the majority of rehearsals from July 10th - July 28th 10am - 5/6pm Monday to Saturday in Kentish Town.
There is a key rehearsal week working on the set, outdoors from July 31st to August 8th which may also include evening/after dark sessions to utilise the stage lighting.
Performances are Wednesday to Sunday only and your call time is likely to be 5pm to prepare for 6pm shows.
Auditions for performers wishing to volunteer will be on June 13th, 14th or 15th.
Please email applications including access to a photograph, CV and a brief note telling us a little about your skills to firstname.lastname@example.org by 10am 12th June with "volunteer Actor" or "Volunteer Stage Management" in the subject line.
We welcome applications from every section of London's diverse community.
